Yesterday – 02 November 2017 – Minneapolis saw the passing away of Solomon Deressa. Solomon is an incredible human being. It is not easy to find such an all rounded thinker, writer, teacher, coach, poet, listener, and above all eloquent orator. His deep thoughts and advises have helped many from all walks of life and from all nationalities. His philosophy touched many. His speeches thought numerous people.

I came to know Solomon Deressa as a Literature student in my undergrad university days. i fall in love with his works (poetry as well as essays) immediately. Later, I met him in person through Heran Sereke-Brhan. I’m lucky to not only know him in person, but also attended his poetry recitals as well as speeches in different occasions. He was kind enough to even visit an amateur poetry club of mine in Addis Ababa back in 1999, and commended the group’s effort after listening to our poems.

As a person, I found him to be very kind, well read, and intellectual, not to mention that he speaks his mind. His base voice, deep looking eyes, and witty expressions are unforgettable. Most importantly his outside the box thinking, and ability to see things differently and expressing them simply inspire me to date. All I spoke with him are still fresh and intact with me as if we spoke yesterday.

Dear Solomon Deressa may you rest in peace. You will be missed, but will never be forgotten. Your legacy will be celebrated for generations to come.
