A massive car bomb in Mogadishu today killed at least twenty people. Many others are reported wounded. The bomb was planted in a truck outside a hotel in the city.
The blast also caused the destruction of a building with hotels, restaurants and government offices in the central K5 Junction. The Somali Foreign Ministry is nearby to the bomb blast.
Abdullahi Nur, a police officer who happened to be near the area during the blast, is quoted by Aljazeera as saying “The death toll will surely rise. We are still busy transporting casualties”
Days later reports the death toll is confirmed to be over three hundred.
There was an exchange of fire between security forces and armed men around safari Hotel, added the report by Aljazeera.
Mohammed Adow, from Aljazeera, reported,”The fighters first detonated a bomb outside the hotel’s gate, and then about four gunmen on foot gained entry into the hotel and started shooting at the patrons and also the security of the hotel”
There was another blast, a car bomb, in Madina district which killed two people.
Al-Shabab took reponsibility for the attack
