African Union is sending fact-finding mission to disputed border area between the two counties. UN security council backed the initiative. Earlier this week, the security council called for peaceful resolution of conflict between the two countries. Ethiopia, too, reportedly manifested interest in the peaceful resolution of the dispute.

According to BBC report, tension between the two counties unfolded following withdrawal of Qatari peacekeeping forces which had been there for nearly seven years.

Dispute is over small mountainous Island of Dumeira (formerly also referred to as Ras Dumeira) as both countries claim territory.

Before Qatar stepped in as a mediator, Djibouti and Eritrea clashed militarily in 2008.
