Second grenade explosion in less than a week in Bahir Dar

A music concert organized in the city of Bahir Dar to promote rebranded beer is disrupted following as grenade explosion. An intense exchange of fire was reported soon after the explosion.
Ruling party ownned Dashen Beer was trying to introduce “Baleageru Beer” after it was stricken by business boycotts in the region. Aregahegne Worash and Kuku Sebsebe were part of the concert.
Reports indicate that the singers were informed not to be part of the concert.
Having lost hundreds of youth when government security forces massacred peaceful demonstrators in July and August of last year and with grief stricken mothers, there has been resistance in the city against anything like music concert.
The extent of the damage is not known yet and no party took responsibility for it.
This is the second grenade explosion in the city in a few days. Last Thursday, at least one person was killed and four other wounded when grenade was thrown near a gas station in Bahir Dar.
Like the explosion yesterday, no entity took responsibility for the attack on Thursday.
The vibrant tourist city of Bahir Dar has been tense following massacre of civilians by government security forces in the summer months of last year.
The region is experiencing recurrent grenade attacks.
Gonder City, another tourist destination in Ethiopia known for its magnificent 16th century Castle of Emperor Fasiledes, has seen recurrent grenade attacks. This month alone four grenade attacks have been reported in the city – something unprecedented in the history of Ethiopia.
The US government issued another travel advisory this past week for its citizen travelling to the region.
Ethiopian government extended state of emergency last month.
