More than 40 thousands of Ethiopian youth were led to different concentration camps in Ethiopia following the declaration of state of emergency last October. Last week, about five thousand were released.Youth who spoke to DW Amharic on condition of anonymity say that they were subjected to gross human rights violations during their detention.
In the concentration camps, thousands of youth were given “training” -apparently indoctrination- for weeks and it was prime minister Hailemariam Desalegne who attended a graduation like ceremony. All the prisoners were mad to wear “never again” T-shirt – which was written in Amharic and Affan Oromo. And all the youth did was to demand political rights. Listen to the audio above.
