Born and raised in Addis Ababa, Meron Alemayehu was an active member and one of the leaders of Semayawi party -registered opposition party in Ethiopia.
As a member of Semayawi party, she was arrested repeatedly and subjected to inhuman treatment while in custody.
After realizing futility of peaceful struggle to engage a regime like TPLF, Meron , along with two of her comrades in Semayawi party, opted for joining armed struggle and traveled to Eritrea. She is now a member of Argbegoch Gibot 7 rebel groups.
