Renewed fighting in Gonder is reported by Amhara Resistance activists on social media and Ethiopian satellite television.
Both sources seem to suggest that there was intense fighting against forces of the regime in Kafta, Humera region of Gonder, today.
Muluken Tesfaw, journalist and Amhara resistance reporter on social media, says peasant rebels under the name Kefagne engaged the regime forces. Based on the report, regime seem to have suffered serious loss. According to this report, commander of the anti-guerrilla forces in the region, identified as Ta’eme, is killed during the fighting. The report added that regime sent hundreds of soldiers to the region as reinforcement.
On the other hand, Ethiopian Satellite Television report asserts that there was a fighting for two days now in the area mentioned above and other areas in Gonder between Arbegnoch Ginbot 7 rebel forces and the regime forces.
ESAT report added that three Arbegnoch Ginbot 7 fighters are killed during combat against regime forces.
Arbegnoch Ginbot 7 rebel group is based along the Ethio-Eritrean border. Former Bucknell University professor, Berhanu Nega, is believed to be commander of the rebel forces. Before Dr. Berhanu took over, Andargachew Tsige was reportedly coordinating activities of rebel forces in Eritrea.
Gonder region of Ethiopia has been the main focus of government repression under state of emergency – which will last at least for four more months.
