BBC to launch service in Amharic, Afaan Oromo and Tigrinya

In what is said to be major expansion since the 1940’s , BBC is set to launch service in additional languages for audiences in Africa and Asia.

Major language additions from Africa include, Amharic,Afaan Oromo,Tigrinya,Igbo,Yoruba and Pidgin. BBC said expansion has been possible due to increased funding from United Kingdom government.

Amharic is widely spoken across Ethiopia and is the official language. Afaan Oromo is mainly spoken in the Oromo region of Ethiopia.
