Champion of Ethiopia’s cause and former All Ethiopian People’s party Chairman, Hailu Shawul, is laid to rest in the patriots cemetery at the Holly Trinity Cathedral in Addis Ababa, ESAT reported.
Hailu Shawul served Ethiopia in different capacities in the previous government and was leader of the biggest opposition party in the country for nearly two decades. Following the general election in Ethiopia in 2005 in which he won a parliamentary seat, he was imprisoned for two years along with other opposition leaders.
His funeral was attended by dignitaries, his colleagues in the opposition party and his supporters.
Hailu Shawul died on October 6 in Thailand where he was following medication. He was eighty and is survived by six children.
