Genzebe Dibaba settled for silver in women’s 1500 meters final at Rio Olympic. She was running from the back with Sifan of the Netherlands in the first two laps.

Genzebe came to lead the race towards the end of the second lap and dominated the third lap.

The fight for gold came in the final 400 meters.

As it turns out, what stood between Gnzebe and Olympic gold in 1500 meters was a stiff challenge from Kenya.

Faith Chepngetich excelled to claim the gold adding numbers to Kenya’s medal table. She dropped in disbelief that she actually won gold for Kenya in the presence of world record holder in the distance.

Genzebe looked strained in the in middle of the final 400 meters ; that is when Faith got a chance to overtake Genzebe. Genzebe won Ethiopia’s first silver medal at Rio Olympic.

Besu Sado and Dawit Seyaum were in the final too along and they did well in the first few rounds.

Genzebe was the favorite as she is world record holder in the distance.

Ethiopians are not yet to see, it seems, second gold medal before women’s 5000 meters final. Olympic 10000 meters record holder Almaz Ayana qualified for the event in style just days after glorious 10000 meters gold medal win with new world record.

Men’s 5000 meters qualifying race is happening in about eleven hours from now.

With a total of five medals, Ethiopia is in 5th postilion in the Athletics medal table.
