Police continues arresting politicians in connection with the violence during mass demonstration in Addis Ababa following the massacre of Ethiopian Christians ( and some Eritreans according to sources) in Libya, says news updated published on facebook by Negere Ethiopia.
The politicians are arrested for allegedly “throwing stones ,causing violence and disturbance”
The news by Negere Ethiopia mentioned that Sintayehu Chekole, apparently one of the politicians arrested in the recent police crackdown on opposition parties particularly Semayawi party, is charged and appeared at at Arada First instance court.
Ismael Dawud, another politician whom the source referred to as member of Unity for Democracy and Justice (UDJ) party and erstwhile columnist to “Ye Millionoch Dimtse” ( which was UDJ party’s publication for voice of millions movement) is taken from his residence by security forces. The update added that Ismael is under police custody at Woreda 9 police station in the capital Addis Ababa. Ismael is facing same charge – causing violence and disturbance – and appeared at Arada court.
Meanwhile, what Negere Ethiopia described as Cadres of the ruling party – EPRDF- are deliberately posting Semayawi party’s election posters in places restricted bylaw. Churches, schools and military camps are apparently no poster zones. If the incident is confirmed, it clearly represent a move by the ruling party to frame Semayawi party for “legal” attack.
Evidently, Semayawi party, one of the opposition parties in Ethiopia, is under increasing pressure and repression of ruling TPLF/EPRDF party. Quite considerable number of its members are thrown to jail in the capital Addis Ababa and elsewhere in the country.
