ABUJA, The Nigerian police on Saturday confirmed the suicide bomb attack at a local poultry market in Maiduguri, capital of Nigeria’s northeastern state of Borno and headquarters of Boko Haram in the West African country but said no official casualties figure has so far emerged.
The extent of damage was still being ascertained and rescue efforts still going on at the place of the explosion, according to state police spokesperson Gideon Jibrin, who confirmed the incident to Xinhua.
He said official casualties figure will be given later, after ongoing rescue operation. “Security operatives have cordoned off the area,” added the police spokesman.
