BANJUL, Gambian President Yahya Jammeh on early Wednesday arrived in the capital Banjul after presidential guards foiled an attempted coup on Tuesday.
President Jammeh landed at the Banjul International Airport at 1:00 a.m. local time after a two-hour refueling stop in Chad.
The 49-year-old president was escorted to Statehouse by heavily armed soldiers and will make a televised statement to the nation Wednesday.
Jammeh was in Dubai at the time of the attempted military coup led by former State House Commander, Lt Colonel Lamin Sanneh, who was in exiled for a year in neighboring Senegal.
