Merara Gudina, associate professor of Political science in Ethiopia’s oldest institution of higher learning, Addis Ababa University, is reportedly dismissed from his academic professorial position.
Citing its sources in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Ethiopian Satellite Television reported that Merra Gudina has not yet received letter of dismissal from the University.
ESAT also reported that some other experienced professors are expected to be dismissed by the university.
Professor Merara Gudina taught Political Science at Addis Ababa University for over 25 years.
Professor Merara Gudina has been one of the vocal critic of the undemocratic regime in power and has been active politically for decades.
At his point in time, Professor Merara is the leader of Oromo Federalist Congress opposition party and Chairman of Opposition Coalition MEDREK
In the past two weeks, two members of oppositions were dismissed and suspended from their jobs at Ethiopian Air Lines and Commercial Bank of Ethiopia respectively, and Merara’s case of dismissal is very likely to be politically motivated.
