Suspects in the case of recent gang rape of Hanna Lalongo in Ethiopia which shocked millions of Ethiopians appeared in court in Kirkos area of Addis Ababa, reported Voice of America Amharic Service. According to the report, the suspects gave their words to court that they are innocent and that complained to court that police brutally tortured them to make them confess a crime which they have not committed.
Of the five suspects, four of them claim that the statement they gave to police was obtained under duress and they were subjected to inhuman torture and claim that they are innocent.
Police requested additional 14 days to conduct more investigation, added the report. Court gave what the report said “serious order” to respect the dignity of the suspects and gave only additional 10 days for additional investigation.
Citing Reporter, local newspaper which is allegedly affiliated with the ruling TPLF/EPRDF party, VOA report added that the suspects were arrested after they were traced with phone with which the victim called her friend while she was under the control of the abductors. In Zewditu hospital, where she passed away, police allegedly brought group of suspects whom Hanna reportedly identified three of three of them, according to the report.
Hana Lalongo was a tenth grader.
There is a campaign in social media to demand justice for Hanna. However, there is no a picture of Hanna as yet. The picture that is circulating is a different Hanna ( Hanna Willimans) who was a 13 year old adopted girl in the US who lost her life in a horrific way in the hands of her adopting parents
