BEIJING -Ahead of the SCO summit on Thursday, Chinese President Xi Jinping met his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in the capital of Tajikistan, Dushanbe. This is the fourth meeting between the two leaders so far this year.
The presidents agreed to continue to push forward major cooperation projects in oil and gas, nuclear energy, aviation, finance and infrastructure construction. They said that under the current situation, SCO members should pledge to strengthen unity, mutual trust and cooperation, and promote the simultaneous advancement of security and economy.
President Xi said China supports Russia taking over the presidency of the SCO next year, and hosting the summit in the southwestern city of Ufa. On the crisis in eastern Ukraine, Xi called for inclusive dialogues at an early date to reach a comprehensive political settlement.
Meanwhile, Putin said Russia values and appreciates China’s stance and proposals, and looks forward to maintaining communication with China.
