U .S . Embassy in Addis Ababa issued safety advisory

(borkena) The U .S . Embassy in Addis Ababa issued safety advisory to US citizens in Ethiopia and those traveling to Ethiopia to remain vigilant about personal security.

The message is issued yesterday on the embassy website.

The reason for issuing the message is related to what is described as “Threat from Al-Shabaab against Ethiopia and western interests in Ethiopia.”

The U. S. Embassy in Addis Ababa claims that it is receiving “credible threat reports of Al-Shabaab’s intent and capability to attack Ethiopia and western interests in Ethiopia”

Recalling recent attacks , apparently by Al-Shabab, along Ethiopia-Somalia border, the embassy advised U.S citizens to be watchful in places like restaurants, hotels, bars, places of worship, supermarkets and shopping malls.

As well, the embassy recommended for US citizens living in Ethiopia and those traveling to Ethiopia to enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP)
