(Northamptonshire Telegraph) The Rotary Club of Corby is supporting charity work being carried out in Ethiopia by a couple.
The club was introduced by John Cartwright of Weldon Congregational Church to a charity founded by Nick and Maria Osborne, of Bedford, who, on a visit to Ethiopia some years ago, were appalled at the lack of ordinary medicines, food and education available to the poverty -stricken population.
Wanting to help in a positive way Nick and Maria formed a charitable trust, Open Way, with the main objective being to raise money to help people in hopeless poverty, deprived of food, medicine and education. They were fortunate to link up with a very dedicated Ethiopian woman named Mulu, and shared her passion for helping to alleviate the poverty in the country.
Open Way is a charity with no administrative or travel costs – these are met by the Osbornes out of their own pockets – so all donations go directly to Mulu who is in day-to-day contact with the people receiving help.
This direct contact, and the integrity of Nick, Maria and Mulu, has encouraged the Corby Rotary Club and other organisations in the Corby area to make donations to the charity.
