(Goal)Nigeria defeated Ethiopia 2-1 in a warm up game played at the Abuja National Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The match was played to put both countries in proper shape for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) billed to commence in South Africa next week.
Goals from Ifeanyi Ede and Ugonna Uzochukwu were all Stephen Keshi’s men needed to get a valuable win against Sewnet Bishaw’s side.
The Super Eagles shot into the lead as early as the third minute through Ede who scored after dribbling past three defenders.
Nigeria dominated the first 20 minutes of the game but were wasteful in front of goal as the strikers blew away begging chances while their visitors found it difficult to break into the Eagles’ backline.
The hosts’ dominance paid off when Uzochukwu doubled the lead in the 30th minute through a header with Ejike Uzoenyi getting the assist.
On resumption of the second half, the Ethiopians pulled a goal back after goalkeeper Chigozie Agbim parried the ball into his own net.
Ethiopia will play in Group C of the competition alongside Ghana, Congo and Libya in Mangaung, while the Super Eagles in Group A will confront hosts South Africa, Mali and Mozambique in Cape Town.
Nigeria will depart for the tournament on Tuesday January 7, 2013.
